Welcome to the home of the Wisconsin Association of Blind Students.

Our Mission:

The mission of the National Federation of the Blind is to achieve widespread emotional acceptance and intellectual understanding that the real problem of blindness is not the loss of eyesight but the misconceptions and lack of information which exist. We do this by bringing blind people together to share successes, to support each other in times of failure, and to create imaginative solutions.

About WABS

WABS was founded in 1996 as the student division of the National Federation of the Blind of Wisconsin. WABS works actively as a state-wide network bringing individuals who are blind or visually impaired together to solve common problems, work on issues of importance, and create long lasting friendships. More specifically, our association works to promote accessible educational opportunities for students who are blind throughout the state. We do all that we do as an integral part of the National Federation of the Blind of Wisconsin. Although the majority of our membership is blind, we encourage any person with or without a visual impairment to participate in our organization and movement.

WABS promotes a positive view of blindness. It is not the tragedy that history, literature and the contemporary media often make it out to be. If a visually impaired individual learns the skills of blindness with proper training, blindness can be reduced to the level of a mere nuisance.
